Why Iyengar yoga?

B.K.S. Iyengar yoga is a disciplined and systemic approach to yoga that emphasizes precision, alignment, and detail in postures (asanas). It often utilizes props like belts, blocks, and blankets to help students achieve correct alignment, making it accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities from beginners to advanced. Attention to detail with active help and adjustments from the teacher the focus is placed on holding poses for extended periods to deepen the effects, improve strength and posture. Flexibility, mobility is improved, and postural imbalances are corrected .

 The  practice of Iyengar yoga develops a deeper understanding of body and mind and cultivates mental focus. Drawing it's philosophy from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, it promotes mental clarity, self awareness and emotional well being. This mindful practice can greatly reduce stress and anxiety. Enhanced breathing (Pranayama) is taught during restorative week. We teach on a four weekly rotation, covering standing poses, forward bends, backbends, restorative and pranayama. 

Iyengar Yoga teacher training programs are rigorous and designed to uphold the standards set by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI). Ongoing assessment and certification are a part of the process. 

Iyengar teachers also receive precise comprehensive training in guiding expectant Mothers safely through each trimester of pregnancy.

Iyengar studios are therefore all encompassing catering for one and all.

It's important to remember that there is no hierarchy in yoga, and all levels of practice are valuable.
